Azusa Pacific Increases Lead in NAIA Track
Azusa Pacific, trying to win its seventh consecutive National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics track and field championship, takes a comfortable 71-26 lead into the third and final day of the national meet today at Azusa.
Patrick Nwanko won the 100 meters in 10.21 seconds Friday, and Ade Olukoju won the shotput with a heave of 61 feet 6 1/4 inches to help the Cougars leave runner-up Pittsburg State (Kan.) and the rest of the field far behind.
In the NAIA women’s competition, Prairie View A&M;, trying for its eighth consecutive team title, leads Arkansas Pine Bluff, 39-29. The Azusa Pacific women, getting a win in the high jump from Latrese Johnson, are in 10th place with 14 points. Johnson set a meet record of 6 feet 1/2 inch.
