Golf Roundup : Grady Leads by Stroke After Shooting a 66 in Georgia
Wayne Grady of Australia shot a six-under-par 66 Friday to take a one-shot lead after two rounds of the Atlanta tournament at Marietta, Ga.
Grady, who has missed the cut in eight of his 13 tournaments this year, had a bogey-free round on the hilly Atlanta Country Club course. His 36-hole total of 136 is eight shots under par.
Trailing Grady are five other players at 137: Ray Stewart of Canada, Larry Silveira, first-round leader Jay Don Blake, Duffy Waldorf and Mike Hulbert.
At Corning, N.Y., Ayako Okamoto holed a pitching wedge for an eagle en route to a five-under-par 66 and the lead after two rounds of the women’s Corning tournament.
Okamoto finished with four birdies, including a chip-in on the par-4 10th hole, an eagle and a three-putt bogey.
Her seven-under 135 was one shot better than Beth Daniel, who also shot a 66 Friday.
Dawn Cole, who led after the first round, shot a 72 and fell into a tie with Colleen Walker, Lauri Merten and Tracy Kerdyk at 139.
Al Geiberger shook off the effects of a head cold and strong winds to shoot a six-under-par 66 and take a three-shot lead after the first round of the Southwestern Bell seniors tournament at Oklahoma City.
Bobby Nichols made an eagle on the par-5 18th hole to finish at 69. He is tied with Orville Moody, Jim Dent and DeRay Simon.
