Developers Delay Study on Monorail

The top developers in downtown Long Beach have postponed a $60,000 study into the feasibility of a “people-mover” or monorail connecting major buildings until Walt Disney Co. decides the fate of the Queen Mary site.

Six downtown developers agreed to put off their study at the request of Disney executives, who are conducting a long-term examination into whether to build a theme park or other attraction in the Port of Long Beach.

“The enthusiasm for the study is still there,” said Paul W. Stern, executive vice president of Ratkovich Co.

He said support for studying a “people-mover” or monorail is still strong among the developers.
