Due on the market in July is a portable copier-printer that fits in your pocket, so you can copy materials almost anywhere, any time.

The Pocket Copier--weighing 4.6 ounces with battery and measuring 3.9-by-2.8-by-1 inch--is part of a new line of portable automated office products called Sony Personals. The copier, Sony representatives say, is “the world’s smallest.”

Copy and Print

Pocket Copier HCP-C10 has a dual memory, a tint control for darker or lighter copy and a replaceable ribbon cartridge that prints about 50 feet of data. It will copy 8 inches of type, line by line, as it is moved across the page. After you’re finished, turn the machine over, push the print button and it will reproduce the recorded matter on any kind of paper.

The device is powered by a portable, rechargeable 6-volt nickel-cadmium battery and has automatic power-off to conserve battery power.

The copier, in charcoal gray, will have a suggested retail price of $159.95. Its AC adapter will cost $24.95 and replaceable ribbon cartridges will be $4.49 each. It will be available nationwide in July at electronics and department stores. To locate stores in your area carrying it, call Sony Corp. of America, (800) 222-7669.

Alluring Repellent

A timely product for summer is Natrapel, a non-chemical bug repellent using 10% citronella oil as its active ingredient and with a nongreasy aloe vera base.

Inventor Ken Grout of the Tender Corp. in Littleton, N.H., says he developed the product for his grandchildren, then decided to go public with it. He was trying to produce a bug repellent without the chemical diethyltoluamide, known as DEET, which he says is toxic and readily absorbed by the skin.

Natrapel, Grout says, won’t harm clothing and can be safely used on children. Suggested retail for the 4-ounce Natrapel pump spray or lotion is $3.50. A 1-ounce trial bottle is 80 cents.

Natrapel is available in Longs Drugs, grocery chains and some sporting goods stores. To find a store in your area carrying it, call the Tender Corp.’s toll-free number, (800) 258-4696.

Alloy Ally

Now offered nationwide is a new cleaner for the high-tech alloy wheels on autos. Produced by a West German firm, Zender Alloy Wheel Cleaner contains no acids and is biodegradable.

The concentrated spray removes road film, grease and dirt from alloy and wire-spoke wheels without damaging their finish. Spray it on, then wipe with a cloth or hose it off. “It will clean any type of wheel,” a Zender spokesman said. “But it is specially formulated for the real wire and alloy wheels because they have a delicate finish.”

The cleanser costs $11.50 for a 16.9-ounce spray bottle and is available through Zender’s 2,200 authorized U.S. dealers. For dealer locations in your area, contact Zender Aerodynamiks of North America in Anaheim. The toll-free number for California is (800) 672-6060; outside California, (800) 421-5544.

Golfer Gadget

For golfers who think they have everything, there’s Mint Marker, a golf ball marker that’s a real silver dime set in a sterling mounting. The bottom is pegged so it can be properly secured to the green when you mark your ball’s place.

Mint Marker can be ordered with a dime from your favorite or special year, except for 1922, 1932 or 1933, when dimes were not minted. It costs $19.95 plus $2 for postage and handling (Californians add 6.5% sales tax). Contact Marketing Solutions, 115 W. California Blvd., Box 240, Pasadena, Calif.; phone, (800) 424-9378.
