Covina : Senator’s Aide Resigns

City Councilman Chris Lancaster is quitting as an administrative assistant for state Sen. William Campbell (R-Hacienda Heights) to open a consulting firm to help private businesses deal with local governments.

Lancaster, who has worked in the senator’s Industry district office since 1986, said his resignation will be effective June 15.

Lancaster, 30, has not decided on a location or a name for the firm but said he might call it Lancaster Consulting. The company will guide developers through the permit process for construction projects, Lancaster said.

To avoid conflicts of interest, Lancaster said he will not accept consulting contracts related to Covina. Lancaster was elected to the council in April, 1988.

“It’s a good opportunity to get some business experience and to make some money,” Lancaster said of his job switch. “I still plan to pursue a career in public service.

Lancaster said that if his father, Assemblyman William Lancaster (R-Covina), retires or runs for other public positions, he will run for his father’s seat.
