John McEnroe defeated Australian Brod Dyke, 6-4, 7-6 (7-0), in the final of a grass-court tennis tournament at Beckenham, England.

McEnroe served five aces as he dominated the first set against his unseeded challenger. Dyke, ranked 139th in the world, rallied in the second set but was totally outclassed in the tie-breaker.

In the women’s final, third-seeded Ros Fairbank of South Africa needed only 71 minutes to defeat second-seeded Anne Minter of Australia, 6-3, 6-3.
