Youth Sports Groups Get Olympic Funds

New grants to youth sports groups totaling $469,802 were announced by the Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles, the group charged with disseminating Southern California’s share of the 1984 Olympic Games surplus. The grants bring the total amount of money given out so far in the Southland to $21.4 million.
The largest amount of money in the latest grants, $105,616, went to the Constitutional Rights Foundation for continuation of its Sports and the Law program that has served 3,000 youngsters in area schools.
Other grants included $97,850 to the California Handicapped Skiers Foundation for teaching skiing to handicapped young people; $62,600 to the Southern California Speed Skating Assn. to provide equipment, rink pads, skates and ice time for the Paramount and Burbank Clubs; $50,245 to the National Foundation of Wheelchair Tennis for instruction programs; $45,000 to the Westside Fencing Center for teacher training; $35,000 to the Southern California Badminton Assn. to maintain five centers; and $21,200 to the Weingart-Lakewood Family YMCA Gymnastics Center for equipment.
Smaller grants of up to $9,400 went to several other local recreation centers, youth sports leagues and other organizations.
