Los Angeles police arrested a Granada Hills man Wednesday as a suspect in the slaying of a Canoga Park woman who was found beaten to death, authorities said.
Nicholas L. Mecca, 30, was being held without bail in the West Valley Division jail, Detective Pat Conmay said.
Mecca is suspected of having entered the home of Barbara Shanks, 40, and killing her by hitting her on the head with a blunt object, police said. Her body was found in the home in the 6500 block of Comanche Avenue by a friend April 17. She had been dead one to two days, police said.
Conmay would not disclose the motive for the slaying or what led investigators to Mecca.
