A Marine corporal who police believe was involved in a May freeway shooting incident in Northern California turned himself in on Tuesday to San Diego authorities, officials said Wednesday.

Ramon Estrella, 22, was wanted on suspicion of firing at another vehicle while driving on a freeway near Hayward on May 27. No one was injured in the incident, Hayward police said.

After San Diego detectives, who believed Estrella was in the area, had distributed information about the incident and his outstanding warrant, Estrella, who was AWOL from the Marine Corp., turned himself in to Camp Pendleton authorities, a San Diego police spokesman said.

Estrella was booked at the County Jail in Vista on counts of assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at an occupied vehicle, a jail spokesman said. Bail was set at $100,000.

Estrella will be transported back to Northern California to stand trial on those charges, police said.
