Officer Spots an Old Classmate

A Santa Ana man arrested in two robberies saw the list of charges grow after a police officer viewed a photograph taken during one holdup and recognized a high school classmate, Garden Grove police said Thursday.

The suspect, David Lee Sanjose Jr., 27, was arrested Tuesday, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Douglas Morrill said. By Thursday, Morrill said, Sanjose had been charged with seven holdups and was a suspect in 30 others that have occurred in the last two months. Most took place at mini-markets and fast-food places in Santa Ana, Anaheim, Huntington Beach and Garden Grove.

Morrill said the key clue came when Officer Marcos Elizondo saw photographs of a suspect and recognized Sanjose “as a person he’d gone to high school with” at Bolsa Grande High School in Garden Grove.

Through that identification, investigators were able to track down and arrest Sanjose.
