SAN DIEGO — Gilbert Baptist of San Diego won a majority decision over Ruben Billaman of Mexico City in their 10-round junior middleweight bout Thursday night. Baptist, the World Boxing Assn. America’s champion, improved to 16-9. Billaman dropped to 29-13.
Baptist, 153 3/4 pounds, stunned Billaman, 154 3/4, with an overhand right to the head in the sixth round and outboxed him the rest of the way.
