Hez Class Scores a 21-1 Upset at Los Alamitos
Hez Class, a 21-1 longshot, upset 6-5 favorite Strawfly Special in the $356,000 Bay Meadows Futurity Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
The Futurity is the first major race of the season for 2-year-old quarter horses. Trained by leading trainer Caesar Dominguez and ridden by Danny Cardoza, the sorrel colt by Easy Jet took the early lead, lost it momentarily inside the final 100 yards, then battled back for the upset win.
Hez Class, who paid $45.60 to win, earned $127,163 for owner Felipe Tiscareno, after covering the 350 yards in 17.63 seconds for a stakes record.
Debonair Kid, the second favorite at 2-1, finished third.
