Tropical Storm Barbara lost much of its punch today as it moved into the colder waters of the Pacific, about 450 miles west southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, the National Hurricane Center said.

Barbara, the first hurricane of the season, was downgraded to a tropical storm on Sunday, after its sustained winds fell below 74 m.p.h. The storm formed Thursday and reached hurricane strength Saturday.
