Steinlen Wins His Second Consecutive Inglewood Handicap

Steinlen, the even-money favorite, took command in the upper stretch and won the $108,400 Inglewood Handicap for the second consecutive year before 28,622 at Hollywood Park Sunday.

Steinlen, ridden by Gary Stevens and carrying high weight of 120 pounds, covered 1 1/16 miles on Hollywood Park’s turf course in a stake record 1:39 3/5. Steinlen, who won by 2 1/4 lengths, returned $4, $2.40 and $2.20.

The victory was the 12th in 29 starts for Steinlen and was worth $63,400. It increased the 6-year-old son of Habitat’s career earnings to $1,040,018. Also, it was Stevens’ third victory of the day.

Pasakos, ridden by Chris McCarron and carrying 115 pounds, paid $3 and $2.60. Mi Preferido, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela and carrying 117 pounds, finished a half-length ahead of Loyal Double and returned $3.20.

Following Loyal Double in the race for 3-year-olds and up were Skip Out Front, Trokhos and New Colony. Wait Till Monday was scratched.

Mi Preferido led most of the way with Steinlen running second, but Steinlen took the lead in the upper stretch and wasn’t threatened.
