A 38-year-old man was wounded Thursday by an armed guard at a Bank of America branch in Anaheim after the man allegedly handed a robbery note to a teller and left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

Anaheim Police Sgt. Chet Barry said Tim Wiley of Costa Mesa was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange with a gunshot wound to the thigh after he was found in the parking lot of the bank in the 2200 block of South Harbor Boulevard. Barry said Wiley will be held on suspicion of bank robbery.

Barry said the guard saw the suspect leaving the bank and ordered him to stop. Instead, the suspect reportedly ran and the guard fired one shot, which hit Wiley in the upper leg.
