Mandlikova Enters Manhattan Beach Event

Hana Mandlikova, a four-time champion in Grand Slam tournaments, has entered the $300,000 Virginia Slims of Los Angeles.

A strong field is shaping up for the event, which will be held Aug. 7-13 at the Manhattan Country Club in Manhattan Beach. Also committed to playing are Martina Navratilova, Gabriela Sabatini, Chris Evert, Zina Garrison and Mary Joe Fernandez.

Mandlikova, ranked No. 19 in the world, has won the Australian Open championship twice and the U.S. Open and French Open titles once each. Ranked No. 3 in the world in 1987, Mandlikova missed most of 1988 with injuries, but has slowly been returning to form.

In March, she defeated the top-seeded Evert in the Virginia Slims of Indian Wells.
