Winners in the 1989 Daytime Emmy Awards for the technical and creative arts categories were presented Saturday night by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Winning children’s television series included “Sesame Street” (for outstanding writing in a series and music direction), “3-2-1 Contact” (for outstanding cinematography, film editing and directing), “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” (outstanding videotape editing and film and sound editing) and the CBS special “No Means No” (outstanding writing and performer in a special). The big winner among daytime dramas was “The Young and the Restless,” which won for art direction, live and tape sound mixing and sound effects, music direction and composition and videotape editing. “Jeopardy” won for outstanding directing and “The Price Is Right” won for outstanding technical direction. “Oprah Winfrey” won for outstanding directing and hair styling. Two shows tied for outstanding special class program, Cinemax’s “James Stewart’s Wonderful Life” and ABC’s “China: Walls and Bridges.”
