Council OKs 73 Homes as Airport Neighbor

Plans to build a controversial subdivision across the street from Oxnard Airport sailed through the Oxnard City Council on Tuesday over objections from pilots.

They had maintained that complaints about airplane noise from future residents of the 73-home Blueberry Park development at Victoria Avenue and Fifth Street could result in closure of the airport.

Officials with Raznick Realty Group of Woodland Hills said studies had shown that traffic along Victoria Avenue would prove more bothersome than the noise of planes taking off and landing near the development.

The development had been opposed by the Oxnard Airport Authority but supported by residents of neighboring subdivisions, the Oxnard Planning Commission and the Ventura County Airport Land Use Commission.

The development, which calls for annexation of nearly 16 acres, will also go before the Local Agency Formation Commission where it is not expected to meet with opposition.
