Culver City : Bus Fares Increased

The City Council this week approved fare increases for the Culver CityBus which are expected to produce an additional $185,000 in annual revenues. A staff report said the increases were necessary to meet a requirement by the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission that at least 38% of annual operating expenditures come from fare boxes and local subsidies.

The basic 50-cent fare remains unchanged, but the fare for seniors and the disabled was increased from 15 cents to 25 cents; the fare for schoolchildren from 25 cents to 35 cents; college student fares from 35 cents to 50 cents (in 10-ride punch cards), and interagency transfers--except for seniors and the disabled--from 10 cents to 25 cents. Transfers for seniors and the disabled will remain at 10 cents.

Route changes approved include increasing the frequency on Line 1 (Washington Boulevard to the West Los Angeles Transit Center and Venice) from every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes.

The cross-town Line 3, from the Westside Pavilion to the Fox Hills mall, has been extended during peak hours during the week until 8:40 p.m.

Line 6, which runs along Sepulveda Boulevard between Los Angeles International Airport and UCLA, will increase in frequency from hourly to every 40 minutes on Saturdays to hourly service on Sunday.
