Santa Ana : Victim of Stabbing Identified as Transsexual
Carla Leigh Salazar, a 35-year-old Santa Ana woman who was discovered stabbed to death in her apartment Thursday, was a transsexual who had originally been a man, police said Friday.
“She had had the full sex change operation,” Santa Ana police spokeswoman Maureen Thomas said.
Salazar’s fully clothed body was found on the living room floor of her apartment in the 1600 block of North Bush Street about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Police have said she died from numerous stab wounds sometime Wednesday or early Thursday.
When Salazar failed to show up for work a friend and the manager of her apartment building entered her apartment and stumbled on the grisly scene. Police say they have no suspects, and the investigation continues.
Thomas said the transsexual aspect of the case was not the dominant element of the investigation. “For our purposes it is neither here nor there,” she said.
