At least four people have been killed in Los Angeles County by motorists since the Fourth of July holiday weekend began, including a motorcyclist who died after colliding with a car on the San Diego Freeway on Monday, authorities said.

The motorcycle-car collision occurred at 12:23 p.m. Monday in the southbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway at Venice Boulevard on the border of Los Angeles and Culver City, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monty Keifer.

Los Angeles police reported that three more people had died in accidents on city streets since the holiday weekend began Friday night. Seven people were killed on Los Angeles County roads over the Fourth of July weekend last year, said CHP Sgt. Mike Brey. The holiday weekend officially ends at midnight tonight.

The victims included a 2 1/2-year-old child who was killed at 9:30 p.m. Sunday night at 41st Place and Main Street in Los Angeles by a hit-and-run driver, Officer Timothy Rolsen said.

There have been nine holiday-related traffic fatalities on highways in Orange and San Diego counties, Brey said.
