UCLA’s Art Council president Connie Nagler has announced a pledge of $200,000 to the new Fowler Museum of Cultural History to open on the Westwood campus next year. The money will be used to build an outdoor amphitheater that will serve for public lectures and performances.

The Music Center Opera League has just presented a check for $144,000, proceeds from its 1989 Fantasy Raffle, to the Los Angeles Music Center Opera. Marilyn Ehrman and Pat Moreno co-chaired.

The Annual Achievement Award dinners sponsored by the Insurance Council of California for the City of Hope at the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco and the Beverly Hills Regent Wilshire Hotel on May 18 honoring Fred G. Dupuis netted $210,000. Louis J. Caron was dinner chair for the Los Angeles event.

“Return of the Great Beverly Hills Garage Sale” at the Beverly Hills School District Parking Lot on June 3 and 4 netted more than $36,000 for the Beverly Hills Education Foundation. Jerry and Linda Shuman were co-chairs. For the school year just ended, the Beverly Hills Unified School District has received a total of $500,000 from fund-raising events.

The National Kidney Foundation of Southern California held its Silver Anniversary Celebration on June 11 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel and netted $95,000. Yona Nadelman and Dr. David Lee were co-chairs.

“Woman of the Year” luncheon of the Medical Center Aides for the City of Hope held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on June 15 honoring Anna Strasberg raised $50,000. Proceeds will be used to establish the Anna Strasberg Research Fellowship Benefiting Children at the City of Hope. Evelyn Silverman and Marjorie Sokolow were co-chairs.
