Hawthorne High School is one of 50 high schools in the nation and two in California to be named winners of the Concerned Businessmen’s Assn. of America’s “Set a Good Example” contest.

About 4,500 schools participated in the contest, said association chief Barbara Ayash.

Teacher Rich Allen supervised the local entry, which included student projects and articles in the school newspaper and yearbook on Hawthorne High School’s drug abuse awareness programs.
