STATE : Firefighter Dies in Big Sur Blaze

One firefighter battling an arson blaze near Big Sur died instantly when a tree fell on him and six others suffered injuries in the accident, state Department of Forestry officials said today.
The accident occurred Sunday night when a 7-member crew from the California Department of Corrections was building a fire line, said CDF spokeswoman Lynda Parks. The victims were evacuated by ambulance and two military helicopters, she said.
