THE SIDELINES : Pugh, Novotna Win Mixed Doubles
From Reuters
LONDON —
Jim Pugh and Jana Novotna today won the mixed doubles, the last major title to be decided at this year’s Wimbledon tennis championships.
Pugh of the United States and Novotna of Czechoslovakia justified their No. 1 seeding by defeating Australian pair Mark Kratzmann and Jenny Byrne 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in a final held over from Sunday because of bad weather.
Admission was free and a fair-sized crowd on Court One enjoyed the 100-minute match played in sunshine.
