County, L.A. Receive State Tax Revenue
The city of Los Angeles has received $17.2 million as its share of state-collected cigarette taxes, highway-user taxes and motor vehicle license fees for the month of June, the state controller’s office has announced. Los Angeles County received $31.6 million as its share.
The $5.8 million the city received from the highway tax will be used for street maintenance and construction, said Louis Lee, a spokesman for Los Angeles’ chief administrative office.
The city expects to receive $47.3 million in highway-user taxes during fiscal year 1989-90. Nearly 75% of that money is budgeted for street maintenance, Lee said.
The county received $10.3 million for the month of June in highway-user taxes, and expects to generate about $18.5 billion over the next 10 years from the tax, according to a memo from county official Mas Fukai.
The motor vehicle license fees contributed $10.4 million in a monthly disbursement to the city’s general fund, while the cigarette tax added $972,493 to the fund, according to the controller’s office. The county received $21.2 million and $972,493, respectively, from each tax.
