Chula Vista Officer Held in Wife’s Death

A Chula Vista police officer has been arrested on suspicion of killing his wife during a domestic dispute Monday at their San Diego home, San Diego police said.
John K. McAvenia, 27, a five-year veteran of the force, was arrested shortly after 11 p.m. at his home in the 3900 block of Renee Drive on suspicion of shooting Diane C. McAvenia, 26, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Diane McAvenia died at UC San Diego Medical Center from a chest wound, Robinson said. John McAvenia has not been charged, he said. Homicide detectives are investigating.
