Santa Ana : Yard Sale to Aid Child Who Nearly Drowned

Share

Parents and friends of a 2-year-old boy who nearly drowned March 30 in his baby-sitter’s North Tustin swimming pool are having a yard sale Saturday and Sunday to help pay for his expensive rehabilitation.

Jonathan Weston remains hospitalized with severe brain damage from the highly publicized March 30 accident at an unlicensed, family day-care home, where authorities said a child unlocked the pool gate and three toddlers fell into the water. One child died; two others survived but are being treated at neurological centers for the brain-injured.

The yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 17721 Linda Lane in Santa Ana, said Christy Kolbet, Jonathan’s mother. “We have insurance; however, it’s not going to last forever,” Kolbet said. “The yard sale was my best friend’s idea and we have a lot of friends who don’t know how to help. And this is a way for them to do that.”

Proceeds will go to the Jonathan Weston Trust Fund at World Savings in Tustin and will be spent on Jonathan’s therapy.
