Joe Dumars, the most valuable player of the National Basketball Assn. Finals, signed a multiyear contract extension with the Detroit Pistons.

General Manager Jack McCloskey would not disclose terms of the contract but said, “We will have him, I think, through his entire career.”

Dumars, who averaged a career-high 17.2 points during the regular season, had a playoff average of 17.8 points, but he averaged 27.3 in the Pistons’ four-game sweep of the Lakers.
