Santa Ana : Man Leaps to His Death After Being Hospitalized
A man who had been hit by a car jumped to his death from the fourth floor of a Santa Ana hospital Wednesday morning.
Joe Harless, 34, of Illinois wrapped a sheet around his hand and broke a window before leaping from United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana about 11 a.m., police said. He died instantly.
Harless had been taken to the hospital Tuesday night after he was hit by a car on East 1st Street, police said. Harless had apparently run in front of the vehicle. He was treated for several bruises and cuts and then routinely admitted to the hospital for trauma monitoring, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police are now investigating whether Harless was attempting suicide when he ran in front of the car.
