Light heavyweight Greg Townes, who was knocked out by Olympic gold medalist Andrew Maynard in a nationally televised fight last Saturday, may lose his license to fight in Rhode Island because he failed to disclose his criminal record.
Townes, 24, who was convicted in 1984 of robbery and assault, said on his June 26, 1988, application that he has no criminal record. A hearing has been scheduled on July 26 before the athletic commission.
A commission spokesman said Townes’ license could be suspended, but declined to speculate on the length of the suspension.
