A man was in critical condition Saturday night after he was shot during an argument in Balboa Park, police said.

Bruce E. Miller, 25, was being held for questioning late Saturday, police said.

According to Lt. Lee Staley, Miller and Sefo Ione, age unknown, became involved in an argument at Park Boulevard and Presidents Way about 7:40 p.m. Miller allegedly pulled a pistol from his pocket and fired two or three shots at Ione, striking him in the arm and leg, Staley said. The assailant then fled.

Miller was stopped at 10th Avenue and Ash Street downtown by police who had heard a radio description of the suspect, Staley said. He added that Miller was carrying a pistol when he was stopped.

“We don’t know yet if he’ll be booked on attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon,” he said. “We don’t yet know the motive.”

Ione was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was in surgery in critical condition, according to a hospital spokesman.
