A woman was killed and five people were injured in a traffic accident, authorities reported Sunday.

Kathleen Ince, 35, died at Mercy Hospital Saturday after a motor home collided with the truck in which she was riding, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol said.

Her husband and two young children survived with only minor injuries, she said.

A motor home, towing a trailer carrying several motorcycles, was traveling on Interstate 8 west of Tavern Road when the driver began to pull the vehicle onto the right shoulder to rest, the spokeswoman said.

As the motor home pulled over, its right wheels and trailer went over the curb, and the driver then swerved to the left, she said.

The trailer unhooked and continued over the embankment, while the motor home swerved back onto the freeway and hit a 1983 Chevrolet truck, causing it to roll several times. Then the motor home tipped over.

The driver of the motor home, Douglas Berwager, 16, of Poway, and a passenger, Tom Hodlick, 15, of San Diego, received minor injuries and were taken to Grossmont Hospital, authorities said.

The driver of the pickup truck, Dennis Ince, 35, and two Ince children, ages 3 and 5, also received minor injuries, and were taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital.
