Former Sen. William Proxmire (D-Wis.), who during his years in the Senate exposed federal waste and overspending though his “Golden Fleece Award,” joins the CNBC cable network today as a Washington commentator. Proxmire will deliver commentaries twice weekly on a wide range of economic issues, and at least once a month he’ll zap someone with a Golden Fleece Award. His comments will be part of CNBC’s “Money Wheel” midday bloc of programming. Proxmire was elected to the Senate in 1957 and retired last January. CNBC is NBC’s new Consumer News and Business Channel.
