Local Group Intensifies NBA Drive
Mannie Jackson, chairman and chief executive officer of San Diego NBA Franchise, Inc., will meet with representatives of the National Basketball Assn. on Aug. 16 to deliver a non-refundable application fee of $100,000.
Jackson said Monday that he will meet with NBA staff “relevant to the decision of bringing San Diego into the NBA.” He also announced that he has letters of agreement from two investors in the proposed San Diego franchise.
Officials of the Seagram’s Coolers All-Star basketball tournament have received written confirmation from 18 NBA players, including Magic Johnson of the Lakers, scheduled to participate in the Aug. 8 game at the San Diego Sports Arena.
Others who have confirmed that they will play are Cliff Levingston (Atlanta), Michael Cage (Seattle), Mark Aguirre (Detroit), Rolando Blackman (Dallas), Clyde Drexler (Portland), Kevin Edwards (Miami), Gary Grant (Clippers), Ron Harper (Cleveland), Jerome Kersey (Portland), Reggie Miller (Indiana), Olden Polynice (Seattle), Brad Sellers (Seattle), Charles Smith (Los Angeles Clippers), Reggie Theus (Orlando), Kiki Vandeweghe (New York), Spud Webb (Atlanta) and Herb Williams (Indiana).
