Placentia : Reaction Asked on Plans for Widening Freeway

Share

The public is invited to comment on plans for widening the Orange Freeway at a meeting with Caltrans officials tonight at El Dorado High School in Placentia.

Public comment will be solicited and become part of the public record as Caltrans assesses the effects various freeway widening proposals may have, officials said.

Options range from no change of the existing eight-lane freeway to adding a car-pool lane and a general-purpose lane in each direction at a cost of up to $181 million.

Examining alternatives is required under state environmental laws, but county transportation officials believe that limiting the project to narrowing existing lanes to accommodate new car-pool lanes would be the most efficient project, at a cost of $29 million.

A final decision will be made after a 45-day public review period, ending Aug. 7.

Tonight’s meeting will begin with a 7 p.m. open house for viewing maps and exhibits and asking questions. El Dorado High School is at 1651 N. Valencia Ave.
