Woman Pleads Guilty in Knife Incident

A Canadian woman arrested for carrying a knife outside NBC-TV’s studio in Burbank pleaded guilty Thursday to trespassing and was ordered by a judge to stay at least 500 yards from studio property.

She was told she could not own any dangerous weapons. The orders were part of a three-year summary probation sentence for Krystyna Marenchin, 39, of Ontario. A second misdemeanor charge of loitering while carrying a concealed weapon was dropped by Burbank Municipal Judge Alan Kalkin.

He sentenced Marenchin to 10 days in jail, but suspended the balance of the term after giving her credit for seven days spent in custody after her arrest.

Marenchin was arrested July 19 after loitering for about three days outside the studio where Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show” is taped. She had a backpack and sleeping bag and police said she apparently had been staying at nearby Buena Vista Park. An 11-inch knife was found in her backpack when she was arrested.
