Hits 3.4% in June : County’s Jobless Rate Rises
The unemployment rate in Orange County jumped to 3.4% in June, its highest reading since last July, but it was still the state’s third lowest, behind Marin and San Mateo counties. The jobless rate was 3.1% in May.
The state Employment Development Department reported 46,500 people out of work in the month, up from 42,000 in May. There were 1.17 million jobs in the county for June, up from 1.16 million last month.
The increase in unemployment was probably due to the seasonal influx of students into the work force.
