As the jury began deliberating over the guilt or innocence of accused Night Stalker Richard Ramirez last week, casting was already under way for a TV movie based on the Night Stalker’s bloody crime spree.
Ramirez is being tried for 13 murders, mutilations, burglaries and various sex crimes. The trial began Jan. 30.
“Trackdown: Anatomy of a Manhunt” will be produced by Ron Gilbert and directed by Bruce Green for ABC. The script, by Joe Gunn, was completed before a jury was even selected for trial.
Key real-life character in the telefilm will include Detective Frank Salerno and his partner, Gil Carrillo, who led the LAPD’s Night Stalker Task Force.
Production reportedly begins on Aug. 21 in and around L.A.
Calls to Gilbert were not returned.
