Border Patrol Seizes Marijuana Cache
Border Patrol agents reported seizing 898 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $833,000 early Saturday when they stopped a van in Chula Vista.
According to a Border Patrol report, agents from the Brown Field Station became suspicious about a Dodge van driving northbound on Interstate 805 at 1:40 a.m.
The agents gave chase, and the driver exited westbound at Main Street in Chula Vista, where it was stopped. The Border Patrol report said a passenger in the van ran away and escaped. However, agents arrested the driver, Rogelio Luna Zauza, 26, of Mexico at the scene and seized 22 military duffel bags full of marijuana.
This is the second sizable marijuana seizure by Border Patrol agents in the last two months. On June 7, agents from the Imperial Beach Station confiscated 808 pounds of marijuana.
