Al Wesson, former public relations director at Hollywood Park and sports information director at USC, died Saturday at his home in Lake San Marcos. He was 87.
Wesson was USC’s first sports information director, a job he held from 1928 until 1942.
While a student at USC and a member of the band, he wrote the school’s fight song, “Fight On,” which is recognized as one of the traditional marching-band songs in the country.
Wesson served as a Navy airman during World War II, and after his discharge, he soon became associated with Hollywood Park.
He is survived by his wife, Frances. No funeral services are planned.
