U.S. Strategy for Nuclear Response

Share

Congratulations and deeply felt thanks for your articles on our nation’s war plans. If these mad fantasies of our “leaders” are not on the front page now, we may easily blunder into a nuclear war.

Rather than imagining that a war involving nuclear weapons resembles other wars, we must admit that any nuclear war will immediately be beyond control. What is needed is to restructure our forces so that it is clear that they can only be used for retaliation, not for a first strike. Increasing the accuracy of our weapons and attempting to develop “Star Wars” only decrease our security by increasing the fears of the Soviet Union.

A conservative step towards increasing our security would be to unilaterally dismantle all highly accurate, first-strike-capable weapons systems. We have so much “deterrence” that we are a grave threat to our own security.

I am just beginning to speak out and join those who have the will to at least write a letter to recall our leaders to their senses.
