Orange County’s Walk of Stars was designed to recognize prominent entertainers, athletes and business professionals who have made a positive contribution to the county. Recipients were either born in the county, live here currently or did so at one time.

Located outside the Anaheim Hilton and Towers, the walk is the brainchild of the Anaheim Hilton committee and inducted its first members in November, 1987. Here is a list of the people with stars on the walk and their induction date:

JUNE 29, 1989

ROD CAREW--won six American League batting championships and was the league’s Most Valuable Player in 1977. He played seven years with the Angels and now owns a baseball school in Placentia.

TOMMY LASORDA--the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers is in his 40th year with the Dodger organization and his 13th as manager. He is one of only 38 big league managers to achieve 1,000 victories and one of the only three who are active. He is a Fullerton resident.

DON SUTTON--one of 19 pitchers in major league history to win more than 300 games, he is 12th on the all-time win list with 324. He also pitched 58 scoreless games, eighth best in major league history. He played for three years with the Angels and now lives in Laguna Hills.

JAN. 7, 1989

GREG BARTON--won a gold medal for 1,000-meter individual kayaking in the 1988 Olympics and teamed with Norman Bellingham to win another gold in 1,000-meter pairs kayaking. He lives in Newport Beach.

NORMAN BELLINGHAM--partner with Greg Barton in winning 1,000-meter pairs kayaking gold medal in 1988 Olympic Games. He resides in Newport Beach.

JANET EVANS--earned three gold medals for swimming in the 1988 Olympic Games. She lives in Placentia.

SCOTT FORTUNE--was on the volleyball team that defeated the Soviet Union for the gold medal in 1988. He is a Laguna Beach resident.

GREG LOUGANIS--won two gold medals for springboard and platform diving in back-to-back Olympic Games, 1984 and 1988. He attended UCI and trained in Mission Viejo.

STEVE TIMMONS--member of the 1988 gold medal-winning U.S. volleyball team. He lives in Newport Beach.

SEPT. 8, 1988

JOEY BISHOP--actor, comedian and TV/film star known as the “best ad libber in the business,” he starred in television’s “The Joey Bishop Show,” the quiz shows “Keep Talking” and “Liar’s Club,” and “The Jack Paar Show.” He appeared in the movies “The Naked and the Dead,” “Oceans 11,” “Sergeants Three” and “Texas Across the River” among others. He is a Newport Beach resident.

RUBY KEELER--one of America’s greatest dancers in the 1930s and ‘40s. As an actress, she appeared in the movies “42nd Street,” “Flirtation Walk,” “Shipmates Forever” and others. She lived for a time in Newport Beach.

NOV. 5, 1987

BUDDY EBSEN--actor who starred in television’s Disney “Davy Crockett” series, “Barnaby Jones” and “The Beverly Hillbillies,” he also appeared in movies such as “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “The Interns” and “Mail Order Bride,” among others. He was a Newport Beach resident.

JOSE FELICIANO--singer, songwriter and musician who has produced 40 gold albums and won four Grammy Awards. He lives in Villa Park.

STEVE MARTIN--comedian, writer, actor and executive producer. He starred in the movies “The Jerk,” “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid,” “Three Amigos,” “Roxanne” and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” as well as others. He attended Garden Grove High School.

THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS

(Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield)--met and formed their partnership in Orange County. Two of their songs, “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin’ (released in 1964) and (You’re My) Soul and Inspiration,” reached No. 1 in the nation. Medley’s song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” from the movie “Dirty Dancing,” received an Academy Award in 1988. They often sing together at their Fountain Valley club, the Hop.

GALE STORM--best known as television’s “My Little Margie.” She starred in TV, movies, records, stage and night clubs. She lives in Laguna Beach.
