THE SIDELINES : U.S. Motorcyclist Sets Hot Pace
American Kevin Schwantz, winner of three events this year, set a blistering pace in the opening official practice today for Sunday’s British 500-cc motorcycle Grand Prix.
Schwantz averaged more than 94 m.p.h. as he clocked 1:34.83 on his Suzuki. His main rivals also set good times in the fast practice session.
Defending world champion Eddie Lawson, on a Honda, was the second quickest with 1:35.50, followed closely by Australian Kevin Magee and American Wayne Rainey, the world championship leader and winner at Donington Park last year.
