First-round draft pick Byron Irvin starred in an outdoor rookie game, and Clyde Drexler slam-dunked a ball into a basket elevated to 11 feet 7 1/2 inches at the Portland Trail Blazers’ Slam ‘N Jam event Saturday night.

A crowd estimated at 20,000 attended the event at Civic Stadium.

Irvin, a guard from Missouri, scored 15 points, nine in the second half, to lead the Red team to a 77-68 win over the White squad. He left the game with two minutes to play because of a sprained right ankle.

Ramon Ramos, the former Seton Hall center who signed with Portland as a free agent, scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Red team.

Mark Bryant, another former Seton Hall player who was Portland’s top draft pick last year, scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the White squad. Cliff Robinson, the Trail Blazers’ second-round pick this year, scored 18.

Both teams had trouble shooting on the outdoor court. The Red team shot 42%, and the White team 38%.

The slam-dunk contest featured a rim that could be adjusted upward. Drexler, who finished second in last season’s NBA Slam-Dunk competition, made it to 11-7 1/2 and won the contest with 184 points.

Drexler’s teammate Jerome Kersey dunked at 11-6.
