ON THE SIDELINES : Race Driver Krueger Taken Home
Driver Phil Krueger was taken home to Indiana today from Michigan, where he was injured in the Marlboro 500 last weekend.
Jon White, a spokesman for Methodist Hospital, said Krueger was admitted to the hospital’s neuro-critical care unit this morning.
Dr. Steve Olvey, a specialist in race-related injuries, said Krueger was in good condition.
“He is still unconscious, but he is beginning to respond to commands,” White said, quoting the physician.
Krueger, 38, of Indianapolis had been unconscious and in critical condition since Sunday, when his car struck a wall during the race in Brooklyn, Mich.
Doctors in Michigan said Krueger suffered broken ribs, a broken left arm and head injuries.
