Contrary to popular opinion, plants can be both water-conserving and attractive. Below is a list of plants compiled by the Metropolitan Water District of Orange County, selected for their combination of good looks and good sense. Some are Southern California natives, while others are products of other areas of the world with similar climates--hot, dry summers and cool, moist winters. Plants adapted to this climate require less water than plants from wetter climates.
