After a 10-year absence from the post, former Miss America Phyllis George will join Gary Collins as co-host on NBC’s Sept. 16 broadcast of the Miss America Pageant from Atlantic City. George, who won the crown in 1971, was the pageant’s co-host from 1972 to 1979.

Jill Eikenberry of “L.A. Law” is set to star in NBC’s “The Diane Martin Story,” about a single mother who is forced to leave her teaching post because the school board does not believe she was raped.

Tom Hulce, nominated for an Academy Award in “Amadeus,” will team up with “L.A. Law” co-star Blair Underwood in an NBC movie tentatively titled “Murder in Mississippi.” Hulce portrays a civil rights activist during the 1964 “Freedom Summer” who befriends a black student volunteer, played by Underwood. Jennifer Grey of “Dirty Dancing” also stars.

Barry Manilow’s one-man Broadway show was taped live by Showtime for a fall telecast on the cable movie channel. Manilow’s show, which ran seven weeks in New York City’s Gershwin Theatre, chronicles the artist’s rise from audition pianist to international star.

Peter O’Toole and Emmy Award-winning actress Mare Winningham are currently in Europe filming the CBS movie “Pied Piper.” The story is about the heroic efforts of an elderly Englishman smuggling two children out of France during the German invasion.
