Fire swept through a 40-foot boat owned by an FBI agent Sunday, setting off about 500 rounds of ammunition before a propane tank exploded and sank the vessel.

Seven people aboard the power boat Quentgalic jumped ship and were picked up by another boat about three miles from Avalon Bay after smoke began pouring from the cabin, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

“We were just laying up on the top of our deck and we smelled something smoking,” said Stephanie Los, 21, whose father Stan, an FBI agent, owns the vessel.

Los said the group was en route to San Pedro after vacationing on the island.

Los said the fire set off about 500 rounds of ammunition for several firearms that were kept on the vessel.

Fire boats sprayed the vessel with water, but flames reached a propane tank and it exploded, causing the vessel to sink.
