For Michael Chang, father knows best.

Buoyed by a visit from his father, Joe, after early defeats in his last two tournaments, the fourth-seeded Chang breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Neil Broad in the opening round of the ATP Championship Monday at Mason, Ohio.

“My dad knows my game inside out,” Chang said. “He knows my weaknesses and strengths. Basically, everything I do is what he has instructed me to do.

“He knows how to correct me, how to get my timing back. He knows my game really well. Lots of times I can call him up and say, ‘My forehand isn’t smooth,’ and he already knows it.”
